The word restoration occurs from a latin word restauratio - restoration.
In a broad sense the concept "restoration" covers all kinds of works directed both on preservation of a work of art, and on the greatest possible revealing of its initial shape. In narrow sense "restoration" means the work, promoting prolongation of life of product and elimination позднейших stratifications from the author's painting, deforming an author's plan and lowering the aesthetic importance of a monument.
In restoration on the foreground tasks of "treatment" of works of art are put forward. Any treatment provides diagnosing illness, an establishment of the common condition of an organism and further partial or its full "recovery".
In 1991 at faculty of painting the branch of restoration of painting was organized. In 1994 the decision on creation of faculty of restoration of works of art was accepted, the same year the first release of experts was held. During existence of faculty it was prepared 46 experts who successfully work as in Ukraine, and abroad - In Russia, in Germany and in Finland.
